Wlwn it was learn,t that the Children ’» Health Camp, which is usually held at Mr, Lethbridge’s property at Turakiua, would not be held this year owing to Mr. Lethbridge’s death, the local Domain Board immediately placed the Domain at the disposal of the Education Board for the camp. The Domain, with its large shed and children’s playground, should make an ideal site for the camp.
The Midnight Revue organised ißy Lady Alexandra Metcalfe and Lady Cunliffe-Owon at the Loudon Pavilion realised £I2OO net for the Save the Children Fund.
According to a table of food value of fruits, nuts and vegetables recently published chestnuts without their shells head the list. Dried .peas come next, and old potatoes weighed as served, are third.
The members of Knox Church, Palea, are tendering a tarewell social to the Rev. W. V. Martin, 8.A., in the supper room of the Town Hall to-night. All friends are invited to be present.
The Patea County Council notify in this issue that certain ratepayers in the Utoia riding of the Patea County intend to present a petition to the council at its next meeting requesting the council to levy a separate rate in order to provide funds to metal a portion of Spence Road.
The Commissioner of Taxes draws the attention of taxpayers to the notification appearing in to-day's_ issue that the due date of payment of ordinary land tax for the current year is on Thursday, November 21, 1929, and that the demands will be posted on or about November 8.
The audited balance-sheets for the years .11)27-2S and 11)28-29 may bo inspected at the Town Clerk’s office during office hours for a period of 80 lays ending 1 on December 8, 1929. A printed copy may also be obtained on application by any ratepayer 6f the borough.
The Patea County C;uncil notify in this issue that the balance-sheet of the i'atca County, together with the certificate of the Audit Office, may be inspected at the post offices at Waverlcy, Waitotara, |iS T gamatapouri, Manutahi, and Alton, during office hours until December 14 by any ratepayer of the county without fee.
The Ate.yor of Patea (Mr. P. liamsbottom), in accordance with the wish of His Majesty tin; King, and for the purpose of honouring our glorious dead, respectfully asks all residents of the borough to observe Armistice Day, Monday, November 11, by suspending all work and vehicular traffic for two minutes from 11 a.m.
An auction sale will be held at Haswell’s Mart, Patea, on Monday, November 11, at 1 p.m., when Wilton carpets, Axminster mats, blankets, rugs, drapery, mercery, sheetings, towellings, ironmongery, crockery, glassware, suits, boots and shoes, English Cutlery, etc., will be offered without Reserve.
