“THE WRECKERS”
WHEN ME. BEUCE BLUNDERED. The action of the Brucc-Pago Ministry in committing its party to an attack on Federal arbitration, in defiance of the platform, placed Nationalism in a false position, said Mr. Frank Louat, barrister, and a prominent member of the Nationalist Council, in .Sydney, the other day.
‘‘The Bruce Government has reaped the whirlwind,” he said. “Many Nationalists, like myself, have remained silent during the campaign out of loyalty to the party—but now the moment has come to speak. Nationalism has been wrecked, and the wreckers arc the men who, in the teeth of the party’s platform, laid their hands on arbitration. The great body of Nationalist supporters will demand to know by what right they have been placed in the false position of the past four weeks.
‘ ‘ BUILD . FROM THE RUINS.” “Industrial arbitration has long stood, in the forefront of our policy. It -was put there by the Nationalists in popular conference, and is still there. Like the White Australia policy, it is an institution that the people will not have touched. If Mr. Bruce thought he could carry the whole of Nationalist support with him in this amazing volte face he mistook the temper of the party. “The vote of the people is not one in favour of Labour, but against the leaders who have turned their backs on the Nationalist platform. Out of evil will come good. We must build again from the ruins, and find men to lead ns Avho will faithfully interpret the spirit and principles of Nationalism.”
