APPALLING TIMES IN CHINA,
STORIES OF CANNIBALISM^
Reports from Kansu, where there has been no rain for four years, depict the most appalling conditions. The population of one city has been reduced to 2000 from 60,000. Recently a magistrate, wishing to punish a person accused of eating the bodies of his fellow sufferers, encountered the plea, “I have been eating only what the dogs eat.”
