EXPLOSION ON CRUISER

SIXTEEN SEAMEN KILLED. WHOLE TURRET WRECKED. The explosion of an Bin gun on the cruiser Devonshire wrecked the wholeturret and killed six men outright, injured ten, who died soon afterwards, and wounded 12. Practically all were from Portsmouth. The accident occurred during exercises near Skiathos, off the eastern const of Greece. It is understood an Sin gun manned by marines exploded, presumably as the result of a misiirc or a flare-back. The wounded arc being placed aboard the hospital ship Maine in the Gulf of Volo. The Devonshire landed the bodies at Yolo, where the townspeople rendered homage. Greek and British flags were half-masted.

The battleship Queen Elizabeth, with Admiral Field aboard, is going to Athens, presumably to hold an inquiry.
