Although defeated at the polls, the Minister for Lands (the Hon. A. D. McLeod), Minister for Agriculture (the Hon. Mr. Hawkcn), and the Minister for Justice (the Hon. Mr. Uolleston) will continue to hold their portfolios ■ until the political situation is more, clearly defined. Ministers of the Crown hold their portfolios by virtue of appointment by His Klcellency the Governor-General, and they remain in ollice until either the Prime Minister resigns or they themselves resign. The resignation of the Prime .Minister would carry with it the resignation of every member of the Cabinet. At the present time there is no Parliament: in Now Zealand, and Cabinet is solely responsible for carrying on I lie affairs of the country.
