WORLD’S PICTURE?
“THU ESCAPE.” WEDNESDAY. Virginia Vnlli in “The Escupm,” Box Films production directed by' Richard Hosson, will be shown in .conjunction with the usual dance on Wednesday. In the supporting cast are William Russell Nancy Droxel, George Meeker, and William Demurest. “The Escape,” scenarised by Paul Schofield, is a modern adaptation of Paul Armstrong's great stage hit and offers Miss Valli some of the finest moments of her screen career. New York, with its teeming tenements and its glittering night clubs, has been used by Eosson in thoroughly modernising Armstrong’s magnificent play. In this colourful background Miss Valli appears first as a lowly girl of “The Kettle,” and, later, as the vivacious hostess of the Blue Moon, <» gilded chib owned and operated by Jerry Magee, as portrayed by ’William Russell. Gripping action and intense drama have been adroitly combined by Eosson in dovetailing the story as brought to the screen by Paul Schofield. There arc innumerable “little moments,” those vital touches which go far toward making a great picture, and virtually every’' player in the east has been made to stand out in unforgettable characterisations.
