HOSPITAL POE ANIMALS
PROPOSAL OF AUCKLAND H.P.C.A. INSTITUTION TO BE BUILT AT ONCE. The lirst “blue cross” hospital for animals in New Zealand is.about to be ■ staidl;-hcd at Few Lynn, a suburb of Auckland, by the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals under urangement with .Mr. 11. W. Carbury, one of its honorary veterinary surgeons. Believing that with the growth of Auckland such a hospital has become necessary, (he society has for some years been accumulating a capital fund for the purpose of erecting a hospital. It lias purchased two acres of laud at New Lynn and on this site will erect immediately a. suitable concrete building, to contain an operating theatre, a ward with cages Tor dogs, eats, and birds, and all necessary conveniences. A dwelling-house will be built on another part of the land and provision will bo made, for enclosures in which animals can be exercised.
A -business agreement lias been entered into between the society and Mr. Carbury whreby the hospital will be carried on by him as the society ’s tenant. A scale of charges to be made by him for veterinary treatment of animals and for their accommodation as “boarders’’ has been compiled. At present Ihe scheme does not include horses, but it is possible it may be extended to do so. It is intended the buildings shall be ready for use by Christmas in order that owners may be able to leave, pets at the institution during the holidays.
