WAVBELLY PUBLIC LIBEARY.f ANNUAL MEETING. The amu al general meeting ol; the vVaverlcy Puuiic Library was held on j. luirsuay, March 21. Mr. J. Gallic presided over a small attendance, the report and balance-sluet were read aim confirmed. The following were elected to office for the year:—-President, Mr. Jno. Muir; vice-president, Mr. Alt'. Howie; Iron, treasurer, Mr. A. L. r.ames; lion, sociclary, Mr. H. Bradmore; general committee, Mesdames A. U, Wallace, A. E Lames, Miss Chcync, Messrs. G. H. Graham, J. Currie, W. ■■'been; selector of books, Air. 11. Bradmore; hou, auditor, Air. \\ . J. Axtiir. in presenting their report fur the year ending December 21, 1926, the committee congratulated members on ihe continued popularity of the insti.ution, but regret there is not a still arger membership. It is probable that u he privileges of the library arc not troll enough known, and it would be a good Hung if mem buys were to intro-uu-'.-e non-subscribing friends. For -a s-ery modest subscription members have access to most of the popular works of fiction, in addition to a fair numbei of heavier' works. A feature of flu dbrary that Ims led to very favourable comment from visitors is the tidy appearance of the book, shelves, this heng- due to the policy of weeding out .Lapidated volumes. Our chief drawback is lack of accommodation, and lie time is approaching alien the committee will have to consider in partial,ar additions to the book shelves. On December 31, 1920, wo had 3140 volumes, 826 having been added during .ho year. We are fortunate in still having Miss Cheyne as librarian, and the committee express their apprecia, ion of her good work. The following new hooks are among he recent additions: — ■“Plants of New Zealand,’’ Laing md Blackwell. “Sheep Limit,” G. W. Ogden. “The Dark Dawn,” Martha Ostcnso. “The Stronger Hand,” John Goodwin. “The Big ’.Mogul,” J. C. Lincoln. “Cousin Jane,” H. L. Wilson. “Traitors’ Gate,” Edgar Wallace. “The Purple Shadow,” Edmund Snell. “Doomesday, ” Warwick Deeping. “As I Lay A’thinking, ” Robert Blatchford. “Collins’ Aten,” A. E. P. Gilligau. “From Alan to Alan,” Olive Shreiner. “A Woman in Exile,” 11. A. Vaehcll. “Padlocked,” Rex Beach. “Crewe Train,” Rose Macaulay. 'Diary of a Young Lady of Fashion,’ Cleone Knox.
