ENGLAND’S STOCK CENSUS

AN INCREASE SHOWN. According to the live stock census the number of cattle in England and Wales this year shows an increase, and the addition is greater than in any recent year. The 1925 total exceedes the average of the ten years immediately preceding the war by 254,000. More calves arc being reared than in any year since the war. For the third year in succession the number of sheep has been increased, a development general throughout the country. The actual figures for the year are: —Cpws and heifers in milk, 2,035,100 head; cows in calf, but not in nulK, 2yu,(jUU head; heifers in calf, 378,500 head; other cattle —two years and above, 1,001,UU0 head; one year and under two years, 1,117500 head; under one year, 1,211,600 head —grand total, 0,403,300. Imst year's total, 0,81U,300. bheep, total, 15,974,400; last year's total, 14,843,200. Horses, total, 1,104,100; last year's total, 1,232,200.
