WAVERLEY MEMORIAL COMMITTEE
A meeting of the Waverley Memorial Committee was held on Thursday evening, Mr A. J. Adlam presiding. Misses Symes and Chcync, Airs 'Wallace and Messrs W. Muir, A. E. Hemes, T. J. •D.ivis, F. Johnston, I. Morrison and H. Middleton were also present. Mr Patterson waited upon the secretary with suggested designs for the Memorial Clock Tower. The designs shown, he stated, would bo built on reinforced concrete. Mr Patterson also said that he had inspected the clock towers at Waipawa, Auckland and Taradale, and the designs before the meeting compared very favourably with any of Those he had seen. Either of the designs would easily be seen from any part of the town. The tablet engraved with the names of the fallen would bo best in granite. As regards the wall, ho suggested that it ie built in concrete. He estimated the ,’.ost of gates at about £3O. In conclusion, Air Patterson stated that he was prepared to work under the supervision of any practical man that the committee appointed. Air Patterson then withdrew, and the meeting went into committee to discuss the various designs submitted. After a very lengthy' discussion, it was decided that Air Talboys be asked to call tenders for the design he had submitted.
