Waverley
From our own Correspondent.
The Waverley Women's Christian Temperance Union held its monthly meeting in St. Stephen’s Schoolroom at 2.30 p.m. on Thursday, September Gth, Mrs Brown presiding. The minutes of the last meeting were road and confirmed.
Correspondence was read from headquarters recommending a universal day of prayer among the Unions for the peace of nations.
After discussion it was decided to reply that the Union was in favour of the movement, and that May 14th would be a suitable date for same.
A congratulatory letter on the opening of the Rest Room was read from the Superintendent of Rest Rooms and Hostels, and advice and help was offered if needed.
Finances and means for working the Rest Room were discussed at length. It was linally decided that individual members should take charge of the room each Friday, from 1 p.m. till 4.30 p.m., until the next monthly meeting, when it was hoped that a permanent attendant would bo found. Mesdamcs Brown and Adlam were appointed to meet the Town Board and discuss tho unsatisfactory state of affairs concerning tho ladies’ lavatory.
It was decided to send for a dozen white ribbon badges, and Mrs T. Wall was appointed badge supervisor, one penny fine being levied on any member failing to wear her badge at meetings. Two more subscribers were obtained for “The White Ribbon,’’ the Union’s official paper. Afternoon tea, interspersed with Union and Rest Room talk, closed a profitable and interesting gathering. The next meeting of the Union will be hold in St. Andrew’s Hall on Thursday, October 4th.
