FOOTBALL NOTES
In the New South Wales Eugby Union team to tour New Zealand will be found several well-known track and field performers —O. E. Nothling (sprinter, hurdler and field games exponent), E. Stanley (pole vaulter), A. J. Eoote (hurdler), O. C. Crossman (sprinter and broad jumper), and W. B. Sheehan (sprinter). And amongst the team will be found one who bears the hallmarked athletic champion name of W. G. George. Some of the above have won championships at either State, 'Varsity or Great Public Schools meetings. A Wellington writer recently nazarded the opinion that Wellington and Auckland could provide a good enough representative New Zealand team to dispose of New South Wales in any test. A Canterbury player capped this by remarking that it ought to be quite sufficient to send the New South Wales manager an enlarged photograph of the Wellington team. Of the 13 inter-island matches played the North Island has won ten and the South seven, wjiile only two have been drawn. The total points scored in these matches are: North 231, South 173. In 1905 the North won by a margin of 26 points to nil, while in 1913 South ran up a score of 25 points to nil. Writing in respect to West, of the Taranaki team, an exchange states that he has already a good record, having been a member of the New Zealapd military team, represented Taranaki in 1920-21-22-23, and represented New Zealand against the Springboks in 1921. A young player, he is playing a great game at present, and it rests with himself whether he gets his New Zealand cap both this year and next year when the team goes Home.
