SPORTS GROUND COMMITTEE.
XORDINARY MEETING. The ordinary monthly meeting of tha Patea Sports Ground Committee was held on Tuesday night, Mr J. H. Cronin presiding. Messrs Strouts, Haworth, Godfrey, Hemingway, Gunn and Locker were also present. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.
■ The Tennis Club wrote stating that the Club had ceased to play for the s«aao».
.The Secretary said the Committee would take charge of the courts for the winter.
The Taranaki Rugby Union wrote offering 10 per cent of the gate takings for the rent of the sports ground for the year. , * Mr Gunn said the Rugby Union had agreed to pay all ground rent and take the gate proceeds. The Union made £350 out of the football clubs last year and at present had money out at inter, est.
Mr Strouts said he would like to see the £ls.owing for last year’s rent paid before tiny fresh contract was entered int®.
Mr Gunn in reply to Mr Strouts 'ox. plained that prior to Mr McLeod’s scheme coming into operation the local club had offered £2O for the use of the ground and later on the Union had agreed to pay this sum.
Mr Strouts said he did not think the committee had had justice from the Taranaki Rugby Union., Last year's rent should bo paid at once, Mr Godfrey said he did not think it fair for the Union to starve the local committee who were giving the authorities the best football ground in the pro vine*. ;
Mr Gunu stated the Union said a large sum had been spent in car hir,o for the local team,’ but the Union overlooked the fact that the Patea team had, by travelling to the larger towns been the means of earning a considerable sumfor the Union-
After further discussion it whs resolved that the Rugby Union bo informed that the Committee Avill agree to the Union having the use of the ground on Saturday afternoons during the present football season at a rental of 50 per cent of the gross takings at the gate until, such time ns this per centagc reaches in the aggregate the sum of £2O for the present season and £ls balance duo. on last season’s rent, and in the event of the percentage not reaching the sums named {£2o and £ls) the Union.to make up the deficiency. The application of the Girls’ Hockey Club for the use of the Domain on Wednesday afternoons was granted, the club to have the ground. till 3.30 p.m. for practice purposes and for the whole afternoon when matches arc played. It was decided to place on record the Committee’s appreciation of the assistance 'rendered by the Borough Council in connection with the footpath to the Memorial Gatos and in other matters
The question of obtaining funds for the Upkeep of the grounds was cousid. crod 'at length and it was finally resolvQ|l,that a united sports* bodies dance be hold at an early date and *hat the secretary communicate with the various ’ sports bodies on the matter.
