PATEA & DISTRICT WAR MEMORIAL.

THE WORK COMMENCED. Pa tea’s Memorial to the men froih this district who fell in the Great War was commenced on Wednesday, when the contractors, Messrs Jones Bros., were busy preparing the foundations of the pillars for the memorial gates. The work, it is hoped, will be completed in about ton days, in time for the Memorial to be unveiled by His Excellency the Governor on the occasion of his visit to Patea on Thursday week. The local School authorites arc also working hard to have , the entrance gates to their Memorial Avenue completed in readiness for His Excellency to open it when he arrives. The pupils of the woodwork class under their instructor, Mr Parker, have completed two very line gates and all that is needed is to haem the concrete gate posts made and fixed in position for the gates. These posts, wo understand, are already being constructed by Messrs Pulley & Co., so His Excellency should be able to assist in .the dedication ceremony in connection with both memorials.
