PATEA TENNIS CLUB.
ANNUAL MELTING. The annual meeting of the I’n‘ea Tennis Club was held on Friday evening. Mr F. W. Grainger presiding - . Them- was a lair attendance of member?. The minn es of the pre\ ious annual meeting were read and. confirmed. The annual balance sheet was read .showing receipts £53/lu/d and expenditure £79/9/0, with accounts payable £ls/5/9. and outstanding subscriptions about £3, and some refunds on ear hire. The secretary slated that labour £42 15/3 accounted for the present financial position. The next heaviest item, of c: penditure was wire netting £9/4/8. in rcplv to the Chairman the Gecretarv said there wore about 42 members last year.. The subscription had been £2 fur men and £1 for ladies, and 10/for players under 20. Tennis balls hud to he found by the players. The Chairman said it seemed that if they carried on on the same linos as last year they would be about £42 to the bad at the end of the year. What was i’uciui red nas new members. Some years ago the membership was over ion and. (> very one seemed to* have a game. There were, lie believed, a large numebr of young players who would be only too 'willing to join if they were canvassed. After further discussion the balance shoot as read was adopted.

Mr Honoyjficld said, whilst admitting ib" necessity for extra funds, he felt that the increase would result in frightening away new members which were badly needed. The Chairman said if the subscription was too high some of the old members might pull out. The young members could not afford the larger amount. Ho felt they should encourage new members till they could so join. To get oxer the ditUculty they could grant a reduction to £2 for gentlemen and £1 for ladies, with half these fees for juniors, if till fees were paid by say January Ist. Mr Gilbert suggested that a 10/- rise on last year's ijjibscri pi ion should lie sufficient. Mr Honey field said i S was never unIcrstood by members that the subscription bo higher L" not paid by a certain date. The Secretary said that it had always been understood. ‘The resolution waspassed in ID ID. Mr Roberts' resolution was not seconded. Mr Roberts said he would then move that the subscription be £2/10/0 for men and £l/5/0 for ladies, with £1 for young men and 10/. for girls. The resolution was then put and carried unanimously. The. opening day was left to the General Committee. Mesdames Roberts, Findlay, ami Misses Houeyiicld and Derrctt were app b.rcd a 'Pea Committee. It was decided that all vice-Prcsi-dcnts tie cx-ofticio members of the General Committee. .V hourly vote of thanks was accorded .Mr Harrison for his donation of a debenture to the Club.
