NOTES

<9 Mr. E. P. Palmer wishes it known that his establishment will be open as usual on Saturday next. A final reminedr is given of the Hard Up Dance to be held in the Waverley Town Hall to-night in aid of the Patea Northern Queen's (Mrs. Simmons) Candidature. The death occurred last week at Sumner, of Mrs. Corfe, wife of Mr. C. C. Corfc, at one time headmaster of Christ's College. Her eldest son is lieu!, man of the Graeco-Bulgarian Repatriation Committee. Soita. under the .League of Nations. He was a Canterbury College student, and lived for many years in Christchurch. Another son is Mr. C. K. Corfe, manager of the Bank of .New South Wales at Wavcrloy. The Waverley Seniors were treated to a very enjoyable outing by the Ngauuuapouri team last week end. Leaving Waverley on Saturday morning, the team were conveyed up the valley to Ngamatapouri on Mr. Bcswi.ck's lorry, where they played a game with the back blocks team iinally being defeated by 11 points to 8. After (Tie match they were entertained to tea, following which a dance was held in their honour. On Sunday the party went on a pig shoot ing expedition, a pastime new i>i many of the Waverley players, the party returning to Waverley on Sunday evening. They also speak very highly of the hospitality extended to them by i he Ngamatapouri settlers and declare that it was one of the most enjoyable week-ends they had spent. For some time past the local young ladies Hockey Club Jun e been working strenuously for the fostering of the game, but wore handicapped to a great, extent owing to i:,< of supervision in the way of a capable instructress. They have battled along however, and on Saturday played, a friendly game with a young men 's learn. Moth teams wen' somewhat out of practice although a keen game took place iinally resulting in a win for the men by P goals to 3. U is a pity that’ more interest had not previously been taken in hockey in this district, for as it is now very late in the season, it is probable that very little mure will be played this year. Ir is gratifying however to see that the

young ladies have made a start in forming a hockey club and it is to be hoped that next season they will receive more support than they have done on this occasion.
