Mr. Downie Stewart, M.P., has been appointed Minister of Internal Affairs, The condition of Mr. W. D. Powdrell, M.P., who is at present seriously ill in Wellington, was reported to bo not so satisfaetory yesterday. Mrs. Honey field, sen., returned home last week, after an enjoyable live months’ holiday spent in various parts of the Dominion.

Mr. H. J. Thornton, assistant secretary to the Wanganui Education Bard, was yesterday appointed secretary to the Taranaki Education Board, in place of Mr. P. G. Wihitcombc, who retires from the secretaryship in April, after twenty-two years’ service. Mr. G. T. Murray, who for some years has occupied the position of district engineer to the Public Works Department for the Auckland district, has .been promoted to the position of inspecting engineer, and he has left to take up his now duties in Wellington.
