WAVERLEY PATRIOTIC LEAGUE.

ORDINARY MEETING. The ordinary monthly meeting of the local Patriotic League was held on Tuesday night, Air. A. E. Symcs presiding. Alessrs. AValkcr, Davis, Taylor, Johnstone, Adlam, and Janies (secretary) also being present. An apology was received from the chairman (Rev. D. Alclvor) for nonattendance. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Several matters in connection with assistance to wounded soldiers were dealt with. Air. Davis brought forward tho matter of a returned man who had not received a medal when tho others did. He said he had brought the matter up before, but nothing had been clone. Air. Adlam said he thought the medal should be given to the man in question. They had money in hand for this purpose, and it.was only right that a medal should bo procured. Air. AValkcr said they did not have any mo'ney in hand for this purpose. They had expended a great deal of tho ladies’ money for this object. The, committee who dealt with this matter was now defunct. Therefore the League had no power to give medals, except as individual members.

Air. Dav.is: But I gave this man’s name in before the " committee disbanded.

Air. James said he understood that the man had not enlisted from this district.

Air. Taylor pointed out that no one wished to deprive the man of his medal. He only wanted to know tho facts.

Mr. Adlam said the committee had aken in men further away than this

The chairman said there had evidently boon a mistake somewhere in regard to the district from which the men left.

Air. Adlam said he would be quite satisfied so long as the man got his medal.

I Air. Walker said the League could not touch the matter^

Air. Johnstone said lie understood that the Entertainment Committee was now defunct, but this matter had been brought forward earlier; no one was to blame. There had been a misunderstanding in tho matter. Mr. AValkcr said he would personally see that the man received a medal. The matter then dropped. There being no- further business, the committee adjourned at 8.45 p.nu
