PATEA HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD
ORDINARY MEETING
The ordinary monthly meeting of Pa tea Hospital and Charitable Aid Board was held on Monday last. Mr. J. H. Johnston occupied the chair, and there wore also present: Messrs. Walker, Hurley, Gibbs, and Helton.
The minutes of the previous ■meeting were read and confirmed. Cottage.
Mrs. T. Johnston wrote offering to lease the Board’s cottage. She stated that she had to leave the house she was in, as if had been sold.
Mr. J, A. Macdonald also applied for
the cottage.
The chairman said he thought (he Board could not deal with the matter until tin? new committee had been formed. It was'decided that a decision in the matter be defered.
Medical Superintendent’s .Report. The Medical Superintendent reported as follows: —Patients in hospital on October 31. 22; admitted, 22; died, 2; discharged, 2-1; in hospital on November GO, ItbJO, 18. Infectious Disease.
The Health Inspector reported the following cases of infections disease in the district: —Tuberculosis, 2; pneumonia, 2.
The report was received Hospital Staff.
The chairman said the Ala Iron had interviewed him in connection with probationers at the hospital. No applications had been received in reply to the first advertisement. He had authorised the matron to advertise again, offering higher wages. Two applications had been received. The latest salary offered was £4B per year. Air. Walker moved that 4lie chairman’s action be endorsed. Mr. Belton asked if the £4B was just for the first year, or would the salary be raised in comparison with the others. The usual probationers did not receive this amount. Air. Hnrlev seconded the resolution.
The secretary staled that the Board could give the new probationers £4B for two years instead of raising It in the second rear.
’Hie resolution was carried, it being resolved that the secretary's suggestion be adopted.
Mr. OiliV>-; reported 11 1 at Ik* had been interviewed by Mr. Mnldrock in connection with cutting wood at the hospital. He Lad offered to cut the same at las per cord. As tins price was as reasonable as could be expected lie had instructed Mr. Muldrock to cut 111 cords of macroearpa. Mr. Belton moved that the action of Mr. Gibbs be confirmed, and that he make arrangements to 'secure posts tor repairs to the fences. Mr. Walker thought the price for cutting was rather high. In Waverley he had seen some cut for IDs per cord. The resolution was seconded by Mr. Hurley and carried. An account for wood cutting was discussed, it finally being decided that Mr. Gibbs be instructed to inspect the work before* the account was paid. Visiting Committee.
Messrs. Hurley and Helton were appointed a Visiting Commit le for the ensuing month.
