A number of local bowlers are going Jo Paten to-day to play a game with that club.
A reminder is given of the fact that the famous film, “On Our Selection,” is to be screened to-night.
We learn that several local athletes intend competing in events at the Boxing Day .Sports, in I’atea. An effort is being made to revive the band for that occasion.
At the Comity Council meeting on Monday, Cr. Matthews signified his intention of resigning from the Council, but did not give any reason for his contemplated action.
Cricketers are reminded that the next match for .the Cooper Cup will be played at Wavcrley on Saturday, the junior team journeying to I’atea.
The Town Board notify in another column that a special meeting of the Board will be held on Wednesday, January 12th next, at 7.30 p.m„ to fix :the half-holiday for the year.
A gathering of members and friends of Knox Church will be held in the supper-room of the Town Hall, I’atea to-morrow (Thursday), at 8 p.m., to bid farewell to Mr. and Mrs. J. G. 18. Dunn, wlto arc leaving the district. Messrs. R. I’. Morrisey and Co., in another column, notify that they have been instructed by Mrs. Win. Dickie to sell by auction at her residence, “ Will.owbank,” Wnverley, on Friday next, the whole of her household furniture and effects, including a piano in excellent order. A banner is badly needed for the junior cricket competitions between Pa.tca and Wnverley. A Patea resident, Air. A. J. Cooper, donated the handsome cup which the seniors are competing for, and incidentally which Wavcrley now holds. Will any Wav.erlcy resident donate a Inonncr to the clubs?
A rather unfortunate accident occurred on Saturday, although luckily no one was hurt. A milk waggon was going to the factory with four full
cans of milk, and when coming down Cave’s Hill, near the mill dam, one of the horses stumbled and fell, becoming entangled in Inc traces. On rising it begun to play up and startled the other horse, with the result that both bolted, the waggon being eventually overturned and the cans ithrown out. The waggon was knocked about, but neither of the horses nor the -driver were hurt.
