WAR MEMORIAL.
A meeting of the residents of Patea and district is to be hold in the Town Hall on Tuesday next, at 7.20 p.m,, for the purpose of further considering the question of a War Memorial for Patea, It is due to the men from this district who have laid down thicr lives in the cause of liberty and justice that some public memorial of the sacrifice that they made should be erected, and wc hope to see as many of the public as possible in attendance. All returned soldiers, for the sake of their fallen comrades, should make a special point of being present, and thus assist in giving the movement a sufficient impetus to enable it to be properly launched. Wc understand that the Domain Board are fully prepared to undertake the erection of the memorial if sufficient funds are forthcoming, the memorial to take the form of a gateway to the Domain, the pillars containing marble tablets, with the names of those from this district who made the supremo sacrifice inscr.be,l on each. This form of memorial is of a permanent nature, and will be both useful and ornamental; in fact, the size and nature of the gateway can be arranged to be built in accordance with the funds subscribed. Wo hope to sec a full attendance and the project supported unanimously, so that it Ci.n be carricl through without further delay.
