Ilis Excellency viscount Jellicoc passed through Patea on Thursday by the afternoon mail train. During the stoppage of the train His Excellency and Viscountess Jellicoc came out o;i ■to the platform of the carriage and conversed freely with several children and local residents who were at the station.

The Wanganui Chronicle states that Mr. John Donald, the well-known Friesian breeder, suffered very severe injuries on Tuesday last through beinggored by a bull. Mr. Donald was putting a new ring in the beast’s nose, and turned away for a few seconds. The animal immediately charged him, and gored him severely about the chest, causing broken ribs and damage to the lungs. Mr. Donald is at present an inmate of Belvcrdalc Hospital, and his condition is critical.
