General Sir John Monash, of Gallipoli fame, has been appointed manager of the Morwcll electric power scheme, at a salary of £3OOO a year. The Wanganui “Chronicle” states that Mr. J. F. G. Larking, who used to be in business in Patea, has recovered sufficiently from his recent illness to bo able to resume business. News was received from Auckland on Wednesday 'of the sudden death of Mr. Fred Symes, who a few months ago retired from the position of manager of the Foxton branch of the Bank T New Zealand. Mr. Symes, who -was a brother of Mr. E. P. Symes, of Wavcrley, decided to settle in Wanganui, and recently purchased a property at Gonvillo. A few days ago he went to To Kuiti on business, and proceeded to .Vuckland, where he was seized with a stroke and expired. Though deceased had been in indifferent health for some time, his relatives had no idea of serious consequences resulting, and hi.s sudden death came as a great shock ‘o Mrs. Symes and daughter (Mrs. H. Richards, of Bulls), and son (Mr. B. Symes, Gonvillo). The sinccrcst sympathy will be extended to them in their ad loss. Mr, Symes was of a quiet, retiring disposition, and was hold in high esteem by a large circle of friends.
