McKenna returns from a visit to Australia. January 29—Local cricket resumed after four years interval owing'to the war. January 30—Corporal E. A. Johnson arrives home. February 3—Eflm. E. M. G. killed in a motor accident near Hawcra. March 6—Complimentary social at the Town. Hall to Matron Lochhead, and the Hospital nurses. March s—Mr. J. Crowther dies from an accident at the Heads caused by a piece of a steel wedge severing an artery in his leg. March. 7 —Sergt. Pcttit returns homo. March 10—War Memorial scheme, including new road to the beach, obelisk, memorial gateway and childroin playground outlined by Mr. K. S. Thompson. VEarch 17—Xo-liccnse meeting in Patea addressed by Messrs Hunter, Powdrcll and others. March 17—Kflm. C. Stanford and Cousins arrive homt. March 18 —Local Repatriation Committee formed with Mr. C. R. Honeyfield as Chairman and Mr. N. C. Harding as Secretary. March 20 —War Memorial, scheme considered by Borough Council. Council pledges itself to support Mr. R. S. Thompson's scheme so far as the avenue and gateway are concerned. March 21 —Dr. Collins leaves for Hawcra. March 26—War Memorial question considered at public meeting. Resolution carried that Mr. Thompson's scheme be carried out so far as the memorial gateway, avenuo and road to the beach were concerned. April 19—First issue of the Patea and Wavcrley Press set up on new "Intertypc" machine. M?ril 21—Trooper H.
