public MEi-rnxG At the public meeting held hist .night to consider the question of a Peace Memorial for the district, the following resolutions were carried : —• (1) That a dale be Jixed for a final meeting al which all suggested schemes be < onsidered ; (2) Thai a committee, be set up to pla.ee the schemes suggested before the country people ; (.')) That the following schemes be placed l-.efore the final meeting, viz.— (a) Returned Soldiers' scheme for library dub and monument ; (It) An/ac Parade and Memorial Avenue ; (c) Fitting monument only ; (d) Obelisk at highest point in the Domain and Memorial Gates in Oxford SI reel. The following committee was elected to prepare schemes to lay before, the !b;al meeting : F. Locker, J. J. itoltham, N. G. Harding, R. S. Thompson, 11. IL Hicks, R. W. Hamcrlou, A. Duvies, C. M. Slrouts, O. A. Larcoml.se, J. C. McLauchlan, J. 11. Cronin, F. G. Da.vies, Dr. .Simmons, and His Worship the Mayor. A full report of the meeting will appear in our next issue.
