PATEA ((>) v. ALTON (3) A CHAPTER OE ACCIDENTS V The Patca v. Alton senior football match, which was postponed from June 21st on account of the weather, took place on the Patca Domain on Monday and was remarkable chiefly for the large number of knock-outs during the game, one unfortunately being serious ; W. Noilson of the Alton team receiving a fractured skull through a collision with a Patca player. Alton kicked off and following up took the ball to Patca’s territory, but Tinney, with a splendid kick, cleared, and from a loose scrum Clark dashed over the line and scored. The kick at goal went wide. Prom the kick out Patca pressed, but off-side play ami had kicking spoilt some good chances. Cameron, at this juncture, had to retire, his shoulder being hurt as a result of a collision with Glenny’s head. Play for sonic time zig-zagged up and down the ground, the Alton pack playing well together. Eventually a scries of long kicks took the ball to Alton’s quarters, whore Reg. Thompson, Baton's full buck, following up a high kick, secured the ball and scored near the corner, Schwass’ kick just missing the post. Half lime was called with the score Patca d, Alton 0. On resuming, Alton assumed the aggressive and had Patca penned on more than one occasion. The visitors secured a mark in a good position and sent the ball over the bar. Encouraged by this success they kept up the attack and wore once or twice within an ace of scoring, but the Paten forwards cleared splendidly, Neilson unfortunately collided with a Patca player, the impact being hoard all over the ground. Like Cameron, ho had to leave the field and later had to receive medical attention at (he Hospital. Patca was pressing when time was called with no addition to the score. Tlic game, which was an uninteresting one to watch, was a disappointing one to supporters of the local players, as the latter bad chance after chance of scoring but mulled them nearly every time through over-zcal-onsuoss on the part of tlio forwards. Mr. D. Cunningham refereed in his usual capable and thorough maimer. Gut a cold? Don’t drug the stomach with mix!ares.
