LADIES' PATRIOTIC LEAGUE

ANNUAL MEETING

The annual meeting of.the Waverley Ladies' Patriotic League was held on Tuesday last in the supper room of the Town Hall, when owing to the inclemency of the weather, there was not a large attendance. The Secretary's annual report was read as follows : "I have the honour to present my fourth annual report of the W.L.P.L. for the year ending 30th June, 1910. During the period July to November the activity of the League was maintained, the cutting-out Committee meeting as previously every Tuesday afternoon. The work completed was as under: — 100 suits pyjamas, 100 undershirts, 33 pairs sox, 12 pairs bed sox, 12 pairs mittens, 3 pairs operation sox, 0 mufflers, 18 hold-alls, 18 handkerchiefs, 3 pyjama coats, 60 garments for children of Navy. The public aro again to be heartily thanked for the generous support accorded the League in its efforts to raise funds to enable the work to be carried on. An unusually heavy demand in the matter of special collections was made and the district has every reason to be proud of its splendid response shown in the following figures : Red Cross Copper Trail £415 15 3 Church Army ._. 201 7 5 Italian Red Cross .... 7 15 0 The afternoon teas, as on previous years, were taken charge of alternately by Moumahaki, Kohi and Waverley ladies, the results again being most encouraging. Particulars arc as under : Afternoon teas 81 14 0 Stalls 133 15 7 Competitions 58 17 6 During the year twelve Committee meetings were held with satisfactory attendance. £5 per month was forwarded to Wellington for Gift Parcels for men in the trenches. In response to an appeal for clothing for the children of the Navy a parcel containing 60 garments was provided. Our year began with a credit bal ancc of £169 13s 3d, and the year's collections from all sources was as follows : Ladies' League £164 7 6 Monthly Parcels ..... 810 0 Y.M.C.A 15 15 6 Red Cross Copper Trail 445 15 3 Church Army 201 7 5 Italian Red Cross .... 7 15 0 Xmas Parcels 2-119 0 For particulars of expenditure, etc., see balance sheet, which shows a credit balance on our account of £221 Ss 9d made up as under : Ladies' League 161 11 6 Monthly Parcels 17 18 2 Woollen Comforts ... 41 19 1 The thanks of the League are due to the Moumahaki and Kohi ladies for their consistent efforts which so materially a'dded- to the general fund, to Miss Partridge for typing, to Mr. W. Evans for packing and to Mr. S. J. Taylor for carting and forwarding goods, to Mr. R. P. Palmer for loan of crockery, and to the Hall Committee for use of supper room, and to the Waverley Assemblies Committee for use of tablecloths. I wish to thank my Committee for their whole hearted co-operation and their sustained interest which made the work of the League a pleasure. I wish also to express my deep gratitude to the League for its kindly appreciation of my services as Secretary shown in the handsome gift presented to mc. The official news of the signing of the Peace Treaty fills us with deep thankfulness and more than repays us for any sacrifice wc have made during the four years to provide comforts for our men." After a brief discussion it was unanimously decided to disband, and that the funds in hand be allocated as follows :—£l6l lis 6d from the Ladies' Fund to be handed over without reservation to the Men's Patriotic Committee ; £4l 19s Id, balance of Woollen Comforts Fund, to be given to the hospital at which the Men's Committee think local men will benefit most ; and £l7 18s 2d, balance of the Monthly Parcel Filntl, to Mrs. Crawford, Wellington, for the entertainment of returned soldiers. There being no further business the meeting terminated.
