PATEA HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD

okdixaby: mbi-itixg. The ordinary monthly mocliiifj of Hie Batea Hospital and Charitable Aid Board was held in the Council Chambers on Monday morning, Mr. J. H. Johnson presiding. Messrs \V. G. Helton. J. Gibbs, 11. B. Cave, J. M. Hurley, J. G. Dunn, C. Dickie, Gregor McGregor were also present. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and con finned. Correspondence was read as under : Inspector Gray wrote, notifying one case of diphtheria in the Batea Borough, and two cases of diphtheria, one case of scarlet fever and one of men.-!es in the County, all of which had been removed to the hospital, the places being disinfected. Bread was weighed at both bakers' shops in the Balea Borough and the results reported to the District Health Officer. The Chief Health Ollicer wrote informing the Board that the Defence authorities had found it necessary in the interests of the sick and wounded soldiers to retain the services of certain medical oflicers, who were given special opportunities of studying the latest methods in military surgery and orthopaedies. The Taranaki Hospital and Charitable Aid Board wrote stating that in their opinion it was highly advisable to npprorrch thellon: the Minister for Hospitals, with a view to placing before him the advisability of culling a conference of all Hospital Boards in the Dominion to consider several important matters in connection witli hospital and charitable aid work, more especially regarding the uniform salar. of nurses and staff. The Chairman said there was m, doubt these were matters of groat importance to Hospital Boards through- , out tiie Dominion. Mr Helton moved that this Board be in favour of tho conference, and that ihe Mntron be informed that the question of her salary had been held over for another month. ' Seconded by Mr Cave and carried Mr. Helton reported that (he Matron asked for metal to be put arround the door and gales. He had pointed out , that at present metal was not obtainable and suggested clinker being used. It was decided that the mailer be left in the hands of the Chairman. The Chairman reported that Dr. Simmons would be in Batea next week ami would be taking charge of the hospital , then. Mr. Dickie said that as Dr. Simmons was taking over control of the hospiiai shortly he thought thai he was (he man to have control of the hospital and grounds. Mr. Gibbs said that if the Chairman would consult the doctor on the matter he could report to the next meeting. This course was agreed to. The question of purchasing stores for the hospital was discussed at lc.nglh. The matter was left in the hands of Messrs Gibbs and Dunn to consider and report. The Chairman said there was one matter he wished (o mention and that was the delay in starling the meetings. Hie hour fixed was !>.■'!() a.m. but members did not. attend till 10 o'clock. Mr. Cave said he had a long way to come and especially on visiting days he could not get to the meeting at n.::o. After further discussion it was decided (o continue meeting at D.'.'O for a, further term, Messrs Hurley and Dunn were appointed the Visiting Committee for next month. Accounts were read and passed for payment and the Board rose.
