HYDRO - ELECTRICITY FOR TARANAKI

MINISTERS TO BE INTERVIEWED.

At the special meeting of the Borough Council held last night a letter was read from the Secretary of the Taranaki Hydro-Elec-tric League who stated that the Minister of Public Works and Railways would be visiting the district at the end of the month. He asked that the Council be represented at a deputation to the Minister to urge the rapid prosecution of the hydro-electric scheme and the Taranaki-Auck-land railway. Cr Hicks said it would-be as well if a delegate were appointed. The Stratford people might help the local people with the Pipiriki railway if they helped them. His Worship said the Pipiriki railway was more feasible than people imagined. The StratfordOhura railway was being taken through far worse country and the Pipiriki line to Patea furnished the shortest route from the centre ot the Island to the sea. Crs. Grainger and the Engineer were unanimously appointed delegates to the meeting.
