BAKER'S CIRCUS

There was an excellent attendance at Baker’s circus which appeared in Patea on Monday njght, the various items earning unstinted applause. The work of Miss Barbarino as a contortionist and a ltightrope artist, was of a very high order, as was that of the Mackie sisters, one of whom held a trapeze in her teeth whilst another sister went through various gymnastic exercises on it. A bucking jennet caused endless amusement, several local horsemen essaying to ride it round the ring with but indifferent success. One horseman however succeeded by grasping the bridle near the hit with both hands, and twining his legs around the animal’s neck, an action which appeared to stagger the jennet, which finally went down on its knees and gave up the struggle in despair.
