GOLF; Waverley v Wanganui. A most enjoyable game was played at the local links on Saturday between the members of the Wanganui and Waverley Clubs, the former eventually proving victorious by 10J games t j o£. The catalogue of the Waverley Public Library was lost in the fire which destroyed Mr Eacoes premises a short rime ago. Until anew one was compiled it Avas impossible for any new books to be purchased owing to the risk of duplicating book* already in the Library. Messrs H. G. Dickie and L. Langdown who undertook the task of bringing oat a new catalogue, have just completed the 1 work and the first lot of books since the fire have , just been placed on the shelves.

OKOTUKU ROAD BOARD. A meeting of the Okotukn Road Board was held in the Town Board meeting room on Friday afternoon, Mr P, Elmslie in the chair. Messrs F. Macdonald. W. B. Cave and J. Lupton were also present. - ' s The minutes of the - previous meeting were read and confirmed.

The Clerk reported the balances as follows :—General Account, or £lO5 9s 4d ; Loan Account, or 6s 8d ; Separate Account, or £8 6s 6d.

It was reported that material was being removed from the side of the road, leaving the road in a dangerous condition. It was resolved that the Clerk write to the offenders warning them to stop the practice. It was resolved that pi ices be obtained from various contractors for grading «t per day, the Board's surfaceman to work the grader.

There beiug no other < business' Mr Macdonald said before the Board rose he would like to move a vote of sympathy with Mr J. Lupton and the Lupton family in their recent sad bereavement. The resolution was carried iu silence and the Board adjourned.

THE FIBE BRIGADE BALL, A reminder is given of the Plain an d Fancy Dress Ball in aid of the Fire Brigade to be held on Thursday. The Brigade is one of those institutions that is worthy of everybody’s support. The members of the Brigade place their services freely and ungrndingly at the disposal of the public for the saving of life and property and the least the public can do ip return is to see that no -lack of funds hampers the exertions or curtails the exertions of so patriotic a body. We hope the Hall will be well filled by a appreciative public on Thursday,

NOTES. Notice is given in to-day’s issue of an important meeting of the Liberal League which will be held in the Town Boards meeting room on Tuesday evening. The many friends of Mrs 0. Oliver will be pleased to learn that she has so far recovered from her recent illness as to be able to return home.

A football match that should prove very

interesting, will be played on the Waverley Domain, on Wednesday afternoon, between the Wanganui College boys and the Waverley Club. A meeting of the Waverley Branch of the N.Z. Liberal League will be held in the Town Board’s room to morrow at 8 p.m, for the purpose of electing delegates to attend the conference to be held at Patea on Monday next for the selection of a candidate, etc. Mr A. J. Adlam announces "in this issue that he has made a remarkable purchase of crockery and glassware which he is prepared to sell to the ppblio at a alight increase over cost. Anyone in want of a dinner-service to replace the one that •has several pieces missing (through “ Mary’s ” carelessness), should take this opportunity of replacing it with one of Adlam’s choice patterned new services. Toilet sets, glassware, and any amount of sundries ate also to be obtained at this up-to-date store.
