PATEA METHODIST CHURCH.
Quarterley Meeting.
The quarterly meeting of the above was held in the Church Vestry on Monday evening, the Rev H, L Blamirrs presiding. Rev. and Mrs Bridgman, Mrs Thorn, Miss Taylor, Messrs H. Locker, Thompson, Taylor, Herbeit and Thorn were also present. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.
Ths Secretary' read tbe balance sheet which showed the finances to bo in a very satisfactory position. The balance sheet as read was adopted. The Sunday School repoits were also read, the Rev G. Bridgman taking the opportunity of congratulating the superintendent of the Alton Sunday School (Mr J., Hill Taylor) on the excellent progress made. Mr Taylor reported a very successful Sunday School anniversiry at Alton. It was decided that the Church Trusts be reorganised at both Patea and Alton. ' v
The following resolution was carried unanimously : " That this meeting of office bearers of the Patea Methodist Church Circuit expresses its deep sense of gratification at the progress which the Bill dealing with the referendum on the Bible in State Schools has made in the House and urges upon all concerned to do their, utmost to assist its becoming law.” i
A copy of this resolution was ordered to be sent to the local member of Parliament asking him to do his utmost towards getting tbe Bill passed. It was decided that a social be held during the quarter, the proceeds to go to the Trust account. Messrs Locker, Glenny, Muir and Thompson were appoint’d a committee to arrange details. The Rev, Blamires thanked the members for their attendance and expressed great pleasure at the manner in which the business was carried out.
A request was made that Mr Blamires should favour Pates by giving a recital entitled “The Wit and Wisdom of Methodist Preachers," the proceeds to go to Church funds. The Rev Blatni»es acceded to the request and the recital will be given at a date to be arranged. Votes of thanks were passed to Mrs Bridgman for providing suppqr, and to Rev. Blamires for presiding; The meeting closed with the benediction.
