Parrners in Southern Taranaki will be glad to learn that the new works that have been contemplated by the the Putea Farmers’ Cc-operative Freezing Company since the late fire will be commenced in about a fortnight’s time and completed within four months from the time of starting. The plans ofthe new works show a handsome and up-to-date ferro concrete structure providing for the killing of some 150 bead of cattje and 800 sheep per day. The building will be replete with every labour saving device that can be installed aud should prove a boon to , farmers in the district. The upper ■ storey will consist of cattle and sheep slaughterhouse with weighing offije, ticket office, inspector’s office,* foreman's v office and cattle pens, boning room, beef and, sheep cooling rooms. The lower storey will comprise offal sorting rooms, hide and skin room”, salt rooms, men’s dressing room), and bathroom. In a separate building adjacent will be found a cold store and new freezing , chambers. Ip addition to these the company hope in the near future to erect a t vo-storey preserving - department, as well as new tallow and manure departments. The construction of the new*buildia£?s will be carried out by day labour under the supervision of Mr F. Amoora, of Eltham, a machine being utilised for the mixing of the concrete. It is anticipated that some 80,yards of concrete I will be laid per day for the foundations and the upper structure should proceed at the rate of one foot per day. Wheu completed the Works will be able to cope with the whole of the surplus stock of Southern Taranaki and as no pains have been spared to bring the new Works up-to-date, the Company should bo able fo carry on its work rnhre successfully than ever to the benefit of farmers and shareh dders generally. The saving that will be effected in labour and insurance alone is calculated as being something in the way of a profit in itself. Given line weailnr the now Works should bo ready for operations in time for the opening of the season et practically the same time as the Works started last year. The new Works when completed will be a credit to the company aud to the town. A special word of praise is due to the Managing Director, Mr Walter Powdrell, on whose shoulders his fallen the brunt of''the work of arranging the details in connection with the uew buildings. At one time after the fire it was feared that the Works would not be re-erected and that the company would wind up its affairs but iu Mr Powdrell shareholders have one who does not know the mean" log of the word “ impossible,” and it is to his energy and determination that the erection of the uew, building is largely due. The comp tny, after many vicissitudes, has done well recently, The coming season should see the Works .established on a firm and lasting foundation.
