FOOTBALL.
Patea I v Waitotara I. The Patea seniors journeyed to Waitotara on Saturday and met the Waitotaia fifteen. Patea had only 12 men on the field and Waitotara had their full team. The game all through was very poor, the home team not playing up to their usual standard. The first*" score in the game was registered by L. Edwards after about 25 minutes' play, the second score being made by J, Ashby crossing the line shortly before half time- ' Leas than five minutes after resumein g E. Davidson crossed the line, the kick again failing. During the next few minutes play was very exciting, Waitotara coming near to crossing the visitors' line, Pa'ea eventually foicing. After a few minutes give and take play the ball was carried to the Waitotara 25, where Tinney 1 secured it ar.d crossed the line, the kick once more failing. The whistle went Bhortly after with the scores Patea 12, Waitotara 0. Mr A. E. Manners refereed and gave every satisfaction. Waver ley I v Alton I. The Waverley seniors j mraeyed to Alton on Saturday and succeeded in defeating the local team by 13 to 12, Waverley II Alton 11. The Alton juniors played the Waverley juuiors on the latter's ground on Saturday and were defeated after a verv willing game by 6 points to 3, Mr M. A. Hunter refereed. Patea II v Waitotara 11. Thß junior match between the Patea and Waitotara teams was played on the local Domain on Saturday and resulted in a somewhat easy win for Patea by 9 points to 6. From the kick off phy was fn the Waitotara Jerritory where Hira got possession from a scrum and registered first blood for the home team, the kick at goal failing Not long afterwards Whanau got possession near Iho half-way flag and running strongly through his opponents scored near the corner flag. Gunn failed with the kick. Half timef was sounded with no addition to the soore. On resuming Waitotara got possession from a line out neat the line and scored near the corner flag. The kick at goal fell short. Livening up the visitors scored again iu a good position but the kisk at goal was fruitless. Patoa after this had two unsuccessful shots at goal, the ball just missing the bar in each case. Rangi next got possession from a loose scrum near the line and fell over, registering Patea's third score. The kick at goal was again futile. Give' and take play followed for soma time, play eventually ending with Patea pressing and the score nine to S'x. Mr T. Sheaban refereed in an able and impartial manner.
