The Patea School.
The School Committee are holding a special meeting to«oigat at 7-30 to consider the question of holding a social in aid of the School funds. The committtee is placed in a somewhat unenviable position. It has a large building, extensive grounds and an exceptionally lengthy line of fencing to maintaia around the school boundary. With but a limited number of pupils attending the school and the grant for maintenance paid on a per capita basis, is naturally follows that the committee are hard put to it to make ends meet. The capitation at present received amounts to £3O 8s per annum, which does not suffice for the cleaning of the school, let alone the upkeep of the extensive grounds and fences, Oa the latter Binoe the beginning of the present financial year the committee have spent over £7, which naturally constitutes a drain on their maagre resources. We trust that when the annual social is held the public will give it their hearty support and encourage the committee in their efforts to keap the school and its grounds in good order and a credit to the town.
