The public will we have no doubt be pleased to leam that after all the day of His Majesty’s Coronation will not pass without observance in Patea. Thanks to the efforts of the school committee an excellent programme has been arranged in which the townspeople are heartily invited to take part. On Saturday the Headmaster Mr Robbie, accompanied by Mr Johnston, i assistant master, and Mr Wells, a member of the committee, made a tour of the business portion of the town, and in a very brief space of time had collected no leas than £lO 9s towards the cost of entertaining the children and had promises of £2 Os 6d in addition, His Worship the. Mayor very generously heading the list with a donation of two guineas. It has been decided that the surplus in hand, after paying all expenses in connection with the celebration, _to« gether with the Government subsidy be devoted towards the cost of • procuring a large bell for 'the school of which the latter is in much need at the present time. The bell could be known os the Coronation Bell, and all contributing to its purchase will be able to feel that they have'an interest in some permanent memorial of the King’s Coronation in Patea. Those desirous of contributing to the fund, and who have not yet been waited upon may leave their contributions with either Mr Robbie, Mr Larcombe the Chairman, or any mem i her of the school committee.
