CORONATION MEMORIALS.

• - Tho member for tho district, Mr G. V, Poarce, in response to numerous requests, forwarded tho following wire to the acting Premier some days ago - ■' Government announce will subsidise local bodies £ for £ for erecting halls as memorial of Coronation: Does this apply to country townships, if so under what conditions and regulations? —Pearce.” The acting Premier replied forwarding the following conditions under which the subsidy will bo granted : Conditions on which Subsidies may be granted to Local Authorities. Tho Government will be prepared to. couyiclor applications made by City and Borough Councils, County Council?, Town Boards, Hoad Boards, and Harbour Boards for a subsidy towards the cost of erecting buildings, etc,, for public purposes in commemoration of the Coronation of His Majesty King George Y, The follow! ng are considered suitable objects: Town halls, libraries, swimming-baths, fountains, avenues of trees and baud rotundas, Tho amount of such subsidy will not exceed £250, and will bo payable on the basis of £l for £l on the amount expended by the local authority out of its funds or out of moneys raised bv public subscriptions for tho purposo-L that is to say, if tho amount so expended is £SOO/ the maximum subsidy of £250 will bo granted, and a o i.sor sum in tho same proportion if Expenditure is lea? than £6OO. Any building so subsidised should have an inscription on suitable part of structure indicating that it has bean erected to coumomorate the Coronation of His Majesty King Georgo Y ; and, if possible, some ceromony should be hold on Coronation in connection with such building. No subsidy will bo payiblo in respect of moneys expended out of loans raised for the purpose of erecting tho buildings. Applications should be addressed to tho Minister of Internal Affairs, Wellington, and should indicate tho nature of tho building proposed ;o ho erected, with estimated cost.
