Waverley v. Patea. The third match between the above clubs in the cup competition was played od the Patea Domain on Wednesday afternoon. Jones won tho toss and sent Waverley to bat. Cave and Butts opened the innings and Tinney and Edser the bowling. After a few overs Butts was caught by Tucker off Tinney. One for 6. Merriman replaced and the partnership proved profitable for Wayerley; Both batsa men hit out freely and scored all round the wicket. Merriman, after making 28, which included 4 fours, was stumped by Geary. Two for 55. Johnston went in next but was shortly bowled by Speight. Three for 56. Orawshaw replaced but did net last long being bowled by Tinney. Four for 61. Cotter went in next but retired immediately to a straight one from Speight. Five for 62. Palmer replaced and made 5 before being bowled by Speight. Six for 77. Coghill was next but returned immediately. Seven for 77. Fesch* replaced- Cave was stumped by Geary. He made 37, which included 3 fours. Eight for 77. Large joined Fesche and both hit out well. Fesche, after making 13, which included 2 fours, was bowled by Speight. Beer joined Large and after making 2 was bowled by Speight. All out for 105, Tinney and Aldridge openod Patea's innings, Butts and Cave alternating with the bowling. After nine overs, during which 15 runs were made, Cotter took the bowling from Butts, In the next over Cave bowled Aldridge; One for 25, Jones re* placed aDd on going to tho wickets was greeted with a round of applause by tho visiting team. After a few overs Tinney hit his wicket. He made 26 which included 4 fours. Two for 33. L. Campbell replaced. At 5 p m, the stumps were drawn. Two for 52. Following are the scores: — Waverley.
