Mr Nitzsche thinks that one balloon will carry two men and the operator. Another will be used to carry a large quantify of gasoline for fuel, and still another for provisions and apparatus. The aeroplane will be used ns a scout. Tho Island of Spitsbergen will he used as a starting point, and there the steamship will await the return of the expedition.

At an extraordinary general meeting of the Norrnanby Dairy Coy, held in Normanby on Wednesday, it was resolved, “ That cheese plants bo installed at Nor.manby, Ararata, and Hirstlands, and that' tho matter of finance be left to the directors to arrange.” The chairman (Mr Goodland) promised that tho directors would go into the question of finance and see whether the project could be carried out. Personally he favoured the installation of cheese plants If they found that tho project could not be financed they would call the shareholders together again and ask them how tho financial difficulty was to be overcome.

Mr Harry Floyd, trainer of Dick Arnst, who has been doer stalking by way of variety, passed through Wellington on Wednesday on route to Wanganui to take up his old duties. Mr Floyd stated that bo hardly thought it would be necessary to camp up the river on this occasion as Arnst knew the course perfectly, and such training as the champion required could just as easily be undergone in town He could not ace how it was possible for Webb to beat his man, unless the former was a mightily improved man, but for the winner there was the attraction held out of matches with Dnrnan, of Canada, and the Englishman, Barry. A distressing fatality occurred at Westmereon Wednesday afternoon about 4 o’clock, when Keith Douglas, tho nephew of Mr Stephen Foreman, of Westmere, received fatal injuries through the accidental discharge of a gun. It appears that deceased, who was fourteen years of age, had been out shooting and was returning to the homestead when the accident occurred He was getting through a fence, when the gun exploded, the charge entering the boy’s abdomen. The report of the gun and the lad’s cries were heard at the homestead and the boy was immediately carrie 1 home. Dr. Hatjierly was summoned and went to the scene of the accident without delay, but the mifortuaato lad died at 11 o’clock last night. Deceased was a very clever lad. and a great favouilte with all with whom he came in contact. He was a consistent prizewinner at school, and gave every promise of a successful future.
