WANGANUI EDUCATION BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the Wanganui Education Board was held on Thursday. Present: Messrs F. Pirani (Chairman), Dixon, Fraser, Spurdle, Bennett, and Cargill. The following appointments were made ; ETawera, Miss Bourke; Eltbam, Miss Jennings and Mr W. Meozies; Mangawhio, Miss ''O’Donnell.

The Headmaster of the Wanganui District High School wrote in reference to the proposed change in school hours for the purpose of giving religious instruction as to what he should do. The following resolution was passed :—That the headteachers of the Wanganui schools be instructed that there must be no alteration in the hours appointed by the Board for secular instruction, except by permission of the Board, and that no religious teaching must be given during those hours. Mr James Smith forwarded his resignation on account of ill health. — Accepted with regret.

It was decided to transfer the Board’s account to the Bank of New Zealand from the commencement of the year, and that in future exchange be paid on teachers’ and committees’ cheques. It was also resolved that all teachers and chairmen of committees be informed that official letters may be posted to the Board’s office unstamped.

It was resolved to apply to the Department for permission to build the Hawera Technical School on the site opposite the Star office. January 21st next was fixed as the date for the election for the vacancy caused by the resignation of Mr j. Smith.

Mr T. H. James accepted the appointment as Board’s architect without leave to do private work.
