PATEA HOSPITAL BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING,

The monthly meeting: of the Patea Hospital Board was held in the County Council Chambers. Present, Messrs G. V. Pearce, O. Kymes, J. A. McKenna, J. Kennedy, W. Derrett, A. Christensen, M. Kliugender, H. Littlewood, W. Hancock, S. Blake, J. Wilson. Mr G. Y, Pearce was re-elected chairman. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. COKEESPONDENCE. Public Trustee, forwarding deed of Board’s mortgage and stating the request re sinking fund bad been complied with. —The Chairman and Secretary were authorised to sign the deed ana attach the seal.

Fred. Elton, stating he failed to see the justice of the account for treatment of Miss Grace Elton on the grounds that she did not have diphtheria and need not have gone to the hospital. Mr Littlewood thought it was a serious case and the best course was adopted,—The secretary was instructed to sue. Miss Z. Arthur, applying to be placed on the list of probationers. Agent Public Trustee, forwarding copy of letter from Mr Mouton in which he said he was prepared to give 17s 6d an acre for an extension of lease for [6 months. —lt was decided to recommend that Mr Mouton’s offer bo accepted. Town Clerk, Patea Borough Gouucil, notifying the appointment of Messrs Littlewood, Hancock, Christensen, and McKenna as representatives of the Council on the Hospital Board, if Eev Ad O. Williams, forwarding cheque for account for maintenance of Eev. Tamapoura but regretting that he was unable to pay a further account nor did he think the Eev. Tamapoura was in a position to pay it.—lt was decided to remit the amount.

The Inspector-General of Hospitals forwarded certain recommendations for the amendment of the by-laws. It was decided to adopt the suggestions and the Chairman, Messrs Derrett, McKenna and the Secretary were appointed a com' mittee to give effect to these. ’ Bev. A. O. Williams, regretting being unable to recommend any Maori girls for nurses. REPORTS. The surgeon reported patients in hospital at last meeting 11, admitted since 9, discharged 13, died 1, remaining 6. The Secretary reported, “I beg to report that I interviewed Mrs McComisky re possession of the Board’s reserve and she expressed her willingness to meet the Board to the utmost. I agreed with her that she could occupy the paddock until required rent free, and that the Board would do any ncoessary fencing between her borough reserve and our reserve.” On the motion of the Chairman, seconded by Mr Christensen, a hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mrs MeComisky for her kindness in giving up the paddock. The committee set up to enquire into the suspension of Hansen reported, “The committee after hearing the evidence of the matron. Mrs Jenkins and Mr Hansen make the following recommendation ; In the committee’s opinion the matron was justified in suspending Hansen as he was evidently at fault in making remarks inconsistent with his position. The committee recommend that he be paid one week’s wages.” The Chairman said that Hansen did not bring any charge against the institution or the staff. Hansen appeared to have been talking too much. The report was adopted. The Secretary ' reported that Miss Grant had been appointed probationer;— Action confirmed. The Chairman reported he had seen Mr James who had sent the plans on of the new hospital to the Department. The windmill was erected and was doing very good work. There was G feet 9 inches of water in the well at yjresent. The reason of the trouble with the drain was that the pipe was blocked. He had authorised this to be attended to. Mr Littlewooil reported that the matron suggested getting a man on for two or three days every week. The matron asked that a tank be connected with the reservoir. ACCOUNTS. Statement of accounts showed available bequest account £1032 ; debit general account £212 8s lid. Accounts amounting to £125 7s were passed for payment. Mr McKenna thought that in regard to the windmill prices should have been obtained from other firms. He considered that all accounts should be rendered monthly, Mr Hancock understood that the price of the mill and well was £SO. The Chairman said McCarty and Hunger only gave a price for the windmill.' 3 The sinking of the well was an ouside matter. It was through his instructions that McCarty and Hunger procured the bricks. It was decided to charge the cost of the windmill to the new building fund. VISITING COMMITTEE. Messrs Klingender, Hancock, and McKenna were appointed a visiting committee.
