BY OUR RESIDENT REPORTER. WAYKRLET, THIS DAY. wedding bells, johnson—McDonald. A quiet but pretty wedding was solemnised in "Waverley yesterday morning, the contracting parties being Miss Mary McDonald, third daughter of Mr McDonald, and Mr Ohas. Edward Johnson, fifth son of Captain Johnson, of Pine Terrace, Waverley. The ceremony took place at the residence of the bride's parents, the Kev. White officiating. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a neat navy blue _ tailormade costume, with tucked white silk front, set off by a hat of white felt daintily trimmed with silk ribbon and ostrich feathers. The bridesmaid, Mies Tiny McDonald, sister of the bride, was dressed in a gray costume, with pink hat. Mr Fred Johnson supported the bridegroom as best man. At the conclusion of the ceremony those present were entertained by Mr and Mrs McDonald. The Eev: White, in a few well-chosen remarks, proposed the health of the bride \ and bridegroom. Mr C. Johnson reJ sponded. The presents received were both numerous and costly. Mr and Mrs Johnston proceeded by the mail train to Wellington where the honeymoon will be spent. A large number of relatives and friends assembled at the station to wish them "' boo voyage," if the term may be used. The happy couple received quite a number of congratulatory messages. DEBATING SOCIETY. Owing to a small attendance the society did not meet last night. The first of the debating contests under the auspices of the Wanganui Union was held at Wanganui last night. Six teams debated i the question " Chamberlain's Fiscal Policy, would it be advantageous to the welfare of the British Empire as a whole ?" Christ Church, Waverley and T.Y.M.I. clubs took the affirmative, Druids, Sfc Mary's, and St. Paul's being for the negative. C.C.C. won against Druids, bv 399 to 387 points, T.Y.M.I, defeated St Mary's by 347 to 319, and St. Paul's were victorious over Waverley by 470 to 365. NOTES Waverley residents are invited in this ssue to oall and inspect new season's millinery and winter goods just opened by T. M. Brown.*
