Overspending Denial
Allegations of overspending by the Polynesian Education Foundation have been strongly denied by. the Minister of Education, Mr Gandar. It was claimed that Pacific Island students were being deprived of assistance be ; cause of excessive administrative costs. An ‘lnsight’ column in Wellington’s Dominion newspaper claimed the Foundation
spent over $12,000 on its members’ expenses and honorariums while giving only $3,235 to students. Mr Gandar says the Foundation is heavily subsidised by the Education Department and in fact only spent $3,643 on administrative costs.
