E ki ana a Te Matenga kei te kupu o Matiu Kapa, minita tana mo runga i nga tono a nga tangata kia nukuhia te oranga mo Te Korimako. Nei nga kupu aTe Matenga:— "He pera taku me ta Matiu. Kia rite te whakaaro o nga kai-awhina, katahi ka marama, ka ae katoa nga wairua o te tangata nui, o te tangata iti. E manu, e rua o whakatauki e takoto nei i au tupuna, <Ko te kai-toto nui a Tikawe.' <Ko te kete-iti a Whakaotirangi.' Kia u, kia kaha, kia toa. Hoatu ite ahi tiki pupara, he whitiki mou, i te whitiki o o tupuna Maori, kia maia ai koe te piki i nga puke, te kau i te moana."
