Pai atu te wahi korero ka tukua nei ki a koutou mo tenei motu, mo Wharekauri. Ko te pai tenei, na nga tangata ake o tera motu enei tataku; a, ko nga ingoa o nga Moriori kei ta raua pukapuka, kei kimi te tangata, kei ki he korero hori. I haere mai raua i "Wharekauri; a, no te nohoanga ki Akarana, ka tuhituhia nga kupu, a takaia iho ki te 2 hereni, he utu tau mo te nupepa nei, mo Te Korimako," kia kitea ai e nga Moriori o reira te ahua o tenei tu manu, aliakoa whetau, he manu Maori:—"Ko nga putake tenei o Wharekauri, i te hanganga i taua motu. Kaore i hanga ete Atua taua motu, kia kahore e whakanohoia e tangata ki reira. Ko te tangata tuatahi, ko Rongomaiwhenua, ko tona iwi, ko Marupuku, me tona iwi katoa. Ko tona kainga, ko Te Awapatiki; ko te pakarutanga tenei o te whanga (he roto) kite moana. Ko te unga mai tenei o nga waka o Hawaiki; ara, ki te ki mai a nga kaumatua. Ko te waka i tu ki reira, no Mihiti; ko te ingoa o tana waka, ko Rangimata, me tona iwi lioki. Ko te rua o nga waka i eke atu ki tetahi taha o taua motu. Ko te ingoa o taua waka, ko Rangihoua. Ko te tangata tenei o runga, ko Rakiroa, me tona hapu katoa. Ko nga waka tuatahi tenei. Ko te toru o nga waka, no muri nei, ko te ingoa o tera waka, ko Raopuke; ko te tangata o runga, te tino rangatira, ko Moe, me tona iwi katoa. Ko nga uri tenei o Rongomaiwhenua, tenei e mau ake nei i raro nei. Heoi ano ka mutu. "Na Horomona Rehe, "Na Wi Tepene Maitahuri."
