[At top] 'Copy' The Town 1 November 1851 Friends, Maori chiefs of Ngati Ruanui, You were correct in writing to the chiefs of Ngati Awa, that this flag be cut down, and that you must maintain your stance there and look to us from there. My friend, my elders, the tribe, this could be a healthy stance for us, and it could lead us to well-being and peace. But there is another aspect for us to consider amongst the matters of the world. Friends, listen to our decision, to the people who trust in the good works of God. The ministers have spoken to us, and the judges, and it is for you the teachers to reflect on what they said. This is what the elders said,
