January 1848 To Mclean, Friend greetings to you who is following what is being said by the Raukawa Tribe therefore be brave and show your strength. Be vigilant as your people of Ngati Apa Tribe is upholding you, be strong as Wanganui is also upholding you. Listen to my chant. "There is nothing in my defeat, as alone I fell, like unto the slaughter at Kaiapoi and the cultivations at Tirarini where stumbling, searching, floating straight ahead and not changing course like a cripple. (N.B. The rest of the chant down to the bottom of the first page appears to be just a jargon of words of obscure meaning and bad spelling.)
