Waitawa, "Wairoa" Jany. 19, 64. Dear Sir, The great meeting for the opening of St. Pauls church has taken place and the greater number of natives belonging to the valley upper and lower were present. I regret to say that owing to several unfortunate circumstances the affair has turned out almost barren of result, and the principal parties interested in getting up the affair are much disatisfied. It was unlucky that the Commissioner could not afford time and that the short time allowed should have been first wasted and then wholly interupted by the rain. I can not tell you of any matter of interest, beyond I might say that a general feeling of indiference and listlessness seemed to pervade the majority of those present - a general wish not to be stirred up and that matters should be left to take their own couse.
