Wellington 29th. March 1871. My dear McLean, I am very sorry to say that we are having more trouble with that designing ruffian, Mc. Donald. The enclosed letter from Carkeek was received this morning. I understand that Carkeek is acting under instructions from you. It is impossible that we can allow this sort of thing to go on. After two decisions of the Court is favour of the purchase, and your liberal adjustment, we must absolutely let them know that what you decided be carried out in the spirit in which you put down old Ngawaka, - "The land is mine. I will give you what I please."
