Ma chere frere So pleased to get both letters last evening. The orderly has again called on his way down. It is quite a luxury to be up here. Went down for a day just to have a look & come back. It is so difficult to hear what takes place & so long to wait for the papers. All here are so busy. Such pretty cattle grazing on the hills by the cottage. This place looks lovely. Dreadful to think that we are in midst of so uncalled for commotion and unnecessary disturbance when so little care & proper management would have averted the whole. What of Whitmore & his doings? His heart must be made of adamant such a reception at P.B. How could he bear it out. All his undertakings make one shudder & wonder when will he cease to risk people's lives in this most reckless manner. Yours in haste Annabella Saturday 12th
